-- Human Systems Transformation Strategist Dr. Zakkiyyah Salaam-Reeder (Dr. Z) Introduces ProtoCal to Examine the Inherited Patterns Shaping Leadership and Culture

Known as Dr. Z, Dr. Zakkiyyah Salaam-Reeder introduces an original five-stage framework for recognizing inherited behavioral systems and intentionally choosing what continues.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Why do leaders and organizations continue repeating patterns they recognize are no longer producing the culture, trust, or outcomes they intend?

According to Human Systems Transformation Strategist Dr. Zakkiyyah Salaam-Reeder, known as Dr. Z, lasting change begins with recognizing the inherited behavioral systems influencing leadership, communication, trust, relationships, and culture.

Dr. Z is introducing ProtoCal, an original Human Systems Transformation framework built around an applied five-stage process. It helps individuals, leaders, and organizations identify the inherited systems influencing behavior and decision-making before intentionally choosing what continues.

Recognize. Examine. Discern. Choose. Continue.

Together, the five stages provide a process for moving awareness toward intentional behavior, leadership practice, organizational culture, and intergenerational continuity.

The framework is introduced in Dr. Z’s forthcoming book, ProtoCal: Examining Inherited Patterns & Choosing What Continues, published by ZS Legacy LLC and scheduled for print release on August 31, 2026.

ProtoCal begins beneath visible behavior with a deceptively simple question:

"What invisible human operating system is already making our decisions?"

“Organizations continuously upgrade technology, processes, and strategy,” says Dr. Z. “ProtoCal examines something easier to overlook: the inherited human systems influencing leadership, communication, trust, and culture.”

As organizations navigate artificial intelligence, workforce transformation, and changing expectations around leadership and trust, ProtoCal proposes that sustainable change requires more than new technology, processes, or strategies. It also requires examining how people interpret, receive, and respond to change.

The ProtoCal™ Framework examines five core areas

· Executive Leadership: judgment, authority and decision-making

· Organizational Culture: trust, psychological safety and belonging

· Communication and Conflict: dialogue, power and response patterns

· Family Systems: roles, traditions and inherited behaviors

· Community and Legacy: leadership, access and what continues

ProtoCal™ creates space to honor the purpose inherited systems once served while consciously evaluating their place in the future:

"Honor what protected you. Examine what shaped you. Choose what continues."

From Lived Experience to a Structured Framework

Dr. Z developed ProtoCal™ through 25 years of leadership experience spanning organizational partnerships, education, community engagement, and human-centered initiatives. The framework also draws from her lived evolution through teenage motherhood, survival, family leadership, education, and the disciplined development of discernment.

Her leadership record provides the applied foundation from which ProtoCal™ was developed.

Through ZS Legacy LLC and prior leadership initiatives, Dr. Z has expanded access for more than 200 youth, engaged 12 community organizations, connected over 50 small businesses to NFL Business Connect opportunities, and supported the vetting of more than 25 nonprofits—with 23 receiving funding. Her community leadership also includes prior service as Community Affairs Director for NFL Alumni Las Vegas.

She also created and produced three seasons of Uncomfortable Conversations, a ZS Legacy platform using vulnerable dialogue and lived experience to deepen self-understanding, empathy, and human connection.

“Before we enter careers, lead teams, or shape organizational cultures, we inherit ways of responding,” says Dr. Z. “Human Systems Transformation begins when we recognize those responses and intentionally choose which ones will shape the future.”

Beyond the book, ProtoCal™ is being developed for executive education, leadership development, organizational consulting, facilitated conversations, and community-based programming through ZS Legacy LLC.
